Q: When will the VMCAS 2014-2015 application cycle open?

You will be able to create your application for the VMCAS 2014-2015 cycle on the afternoon of June 5, 2014.

Q: How can I look up information about my CVM’s requirements?

Use the School Information links on the VMCAS info hub to find information about school-specific information.

Q: How do I print my VMCAS application?

After your application has been E-Submitted you can print your application by going to the College Designations section at the bottom of the Application Checklist and clicking the “Application Preview” button on the right next to whichever School you choose. This will bring up a PDF of your entire application. Save and print this PDF for your records. This application preview is not available until after you E-Submit your application.

Q: What do I need to access the VMCAS web application online?

A: To access the web application online, your computer must meet the following requirements:

  • For the optimal browsing of the web application, use Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0+ or Mozilla Foxfire 2.0.
  • JavaScript must be enabled
  • Cookies must be enabled
  • Pop-up windows are used, so pop-up blockers must be disabled
  • 800 × 600 is required, 1024 × 768 or larger is preferred
  • It is recommended that the browser window be maximized to take up the entire screen
  • If a disability prevents you from accessing the web application, please contact VMCAS.

Q: Can I send other materials to VMCAS even if they are not required?

A: Do not send any other documents to VMCAS, regardless of whether you wish them to be included as part of your VMCAS application. VMCAS will NOT forward any documents other than those listed above to your designated programs. If you would like your designated programs to obtain a copy of additional documents or credentials, you must contact your programs and ask whether they will allow you to send these items to the admissions offices directly. Be sure to investigate any supplemental application materials or fees that your individual program(s) may require.

Q: Do I have to wait for my documents to be received at VMCAS before I can e-submit my application?

A: No. You can and should e-submit your VMCAS application as soon as you are confident that you have filled out all of the online sections completely and accurately. VMCAS will accept your letters of references and transcripts regardless of the status of your application. The receipt of these documents does not affect whether you can e-submit.

Q: Can I edit the application after I have e-submitted it to VMCAS?

A: You are able edit some sections, but the majority of the application becomes locked once you e-submit your first designation(s). The following sections can be edited after you have e-submitted your application:

  • Alternate Name
  • Mailing Addresses
  • Phone Numbers
  • Email Address
  • Password: Not transmitted to your designated DVM programs
  • Designate Additional VMCAS Programs: No substitutions or deletions
  • Reference Contacts: You may not delete an evaluator from your application once the reference begins to save information

Q: Can I apply to additional programs after I submit my VMCAS application the first time?

Yes. You may login to your submitted VMCAS application to add additional program designations, provided you do so before the October 2nd, 2014 1pm Eastern Time deadline. You must pay the incremental fee for each additional program you select before your request will be accepted. If you add additional programs you are only required to provide the $100 per school fee required for each additional program. For example, if you have already submitted to three programs for a fee of $395, and then add an additional school, you are only required to provide an additional fee of $100, for a total of $495;  you are not at any financial disadvantage if you add a designation at a later point.

NOTE: You will not be able to add or submit to additional designations after October 2nd, 2014 at 1pm. VMCAS recommends submitting well in advance of this date.

Q: What documents can be sent to VMCAS?

A: In order to apply to programs through VMCAS, you must fill out an online application and provide the following documents to complete your file:

  • Official Transcripts from all U.S. and English-speaking Canadian higher-education institutions attended.

If required by your school, you may also send the following to VMCAS:

  • Foreign Transcript Evaluations

Keep in mind that official transcripts must be sent directly from the registrar or records offices at the colleges and universities you have attended. DO NOT mail or fax a paper copy of your official test scores to VMCAS.

Q: What documents can be sent to VMCAS electronically?

 A: In order to apply to programs through VMCAS, you must fill out the online application and provide the following electronically to complete your file

  • Credit Card Payment
  • 3 Letters of reference

If required by the program, you may also send the following to VMCAS:

  • Up to 3 additional letters of reference (for a total of 6)

At this time, electronic PDF transcripts cannot be processed at VMCAS, even if they are sent from the registrar’s office. Please arrange for a hard copy to be sent to VMCAS.

Q: Should a Curriculum Vitae/resume be sent to VMCAS?

A. No. A curriculum vitae/resume is not required and should not be sent to VMCAS, as we are not able to process this documentation. Much of the information typically included in a resume can be entered in the Experiences section of the application.

Q: Will VMCAS send my Foreign Transcript Evaluation to a non-participating program or any other establishment?

No. VMCAS is only authorized to distribute applicant documents to Colleges of Veterinary Medicine participating in VMCAS. VMCAS cannot make exceptions to this policy under any circumstances.
